From Crisis to Challenge: The Contemporary Agunah Experience

Young Israel of Plainview will partner with ORA and the Center for Jewish Film to present: "From Crisis to Challenge: The Contemporary Agunah Experience". The conference will address the plight of agunot, halachic and legal issues pertaining to Jewish marriage and divorce, and explore options to ease and prevent the plight of women victimized by recalcitrant husbands. The program will begin with a viewing of "Women Unchained", a documentary about modern-day agunot.

Speakers will include:

~Rabbi Jeremy Stern on the "Agunah Advocacy and Halachic Prenuptial agreements"

~Divorce Attorney Louis Sroka, Esq., on "New York State Get Law"

~Rabbi Elie Weissman, Rabbi of YI of Plainview, on "Signing Prenups and Postnups"

Program begins 9:15am at the Young Israel of Plainview, 132 Southern Parkway, Plainview, NY, 11803. Following the formal presentation, lunch will be served and attendees will have the opportunity to sign prenup and postnups with Rabbis Stern and Weissman.
